POLICIES AND PROCEDURES REGARDING RMTA SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMS

HAAGE AND SMITH PERFORMANCE AUDITIONS
HAAGE SCHOLARSHIP: Scholarship amount reviewed and determined annually. Awarded annually to a high school senior who has been accepted into a recognized school of higher learning and will be STUDYING MUSIC PRIVATELY.

SMITH SCHOLARSHIP: Scholarship amount reviewed and determined annually. Awarded annually to a high school senior who has been accepted into a recognized school of higher learning AS A MUSIC MAJOR.

REPERTOIRE/PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS: ONLY THREE contrasting works one from each of the historical periods. Pianists and vocalists will perform ALL THREE by memory. Memorization for organists is optional. Instrumentalists must memorize ONE of the three selections. Vocalists and instrumentalists must bring their own accompanist. Teachers are not permitted to accompany their own students or to be present at the audition. One set of original scores (soloists part) must be furnished for the judges. NO PHOTOCOPIES ARE PERMITTED.

ELIGIBILITY: Students must be actively studying with an RMTA member in good standing whose membership dues are paid in full for the current year, and has maintained active membership for two consecutive years. (Bylaws Article X, Section 4)

AUDITIONS: Auditions for Haage and Smith Scholarships will take place at the same time. Maximum audition time for each student is 20 minutes. Teachers should make necessary and appropriate cuts to meet the time limit.

APPLICATION: Application forms will be mailed in February. Students may apply for both scholarships but only ONE scholarship will be awarded per student.

AWARDS: Amounts are determined annually. All award amounts are sent directly to the college or university in two installments, one for the fall term, one for the spring. It is the student’s responsibility to inform the chair the name, address and other pertinent information for the college within a reasonable time or the award will be forfeited.
